About Mara Rose, Career and Life Coach
My story, my values,
and how I came to this work.

The Path that led me here
One of my favorite quotes is from Steve Jobs:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.”
This truth is at the heart of my story and my work. Looking back, I can clearly see the pivotal “dots” that led me here. At the time, I didn’t know which direction they would lead me, but now I see how each experience became part of a path that I’m deeply grateful to have walked.
I was raised by kind parents who believed in helping others. As a sensitive and empathic child, I was attuned to people’s struggles and deeply curious about how humans and the world work. Life, however, also presented profound challenges. By my early teens, after enduring significant trauma, I found myself in a very dark place.
The moment something shifted
At fifteen, overwhelmed by how painful life felt, a quiet inner voice—what I now know as my intuition—whispered: This can’t be all there is to life. There has to be something better.
That thought opened a door I hadn’t known existed. It was the moment I began to believe in POSSIBILITY. I decided that if I kept moving forward, even one step at a time, I would find a better life. That belief didn’t just save me; it became my compass.
It led me to dream of college—a place I thought I could learn, grow, and connect with like-minded people. Through persistence, I earned an academic scholarship and fulfilled my dream. I earned a degree in Sociology, a lens that continues to shape how I see systems, stories, and human potential.
My learning extended far beyond the classroom. For years, both before and after college, I worked with individuals with developmental disabilities. Later, I worked as an assistant teacher in a Chicago school, supporting teenagers carrying deep trauma in a society that had offered them little, leaving them with few exits from the cycles they were in.
I loved this work fiercely. It was about meeting people where they were—with dignity, compassion, and respect.
These experiences, combined with my own journey, began to teach me some foundational truths:
-People are capable of extraordinary change.
-We can do hard things.
-What matters most is not what happens to us, but how we meet it.
-In every moment, we have a choice about where to place our attention. The most powerful question we can ask is:“Now that this has happened, what will I do with it? What good might still be possible from here?”
Why I do this work
When I became a mother, I chose to stay home—an experience that deepened my understanding of growth and resilience in a new way. During that time, a friend who owned a coaching business observed, “You’d be a great life coach.”
Her words resonated and I enrolled in the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI), completing their year-long coaching program and earning my CPCC certification. My experience at CTI was transformative. I found my language, my framework, and a deep certainty that I was on the right path.
I went on to work for her coaching business for over six years, where I had the privilege of guiding my clients toward significant personal and professional progress. During that time I added career coaching to my coaching toolkit, honed my craft and achieved the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential from the International Coach Federation—a milestone that deepened my foundational philosophy.
In June 2025, I joyfully founded Mara Rose Coaching where it is my profound privilege to use all I have lived and learned to support my clients. Whether we’re navigating a career transition, processing past pain, strengthening relationships, or seeking a more grounded daily life, I believe all growth matters. My approach is built on a simple, powerful belief: even when you can’t see the path ahead, your next step is possible.
Looking back, I am grateful for the way my dots have connected. If you’re ready to explore your possibilities, to connect your own dots, and to take that next step forward, I would be honored to walk with you
A Little More About Me
I’m the proud mother of two adult children and a devoted companion to my 13-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback.

I love exploring new trails on my bike and discovering new places. The world is beautiful, and I’m endlessly curious about both it and the people in it.
I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and a good game of spades. I love adventure and will rarely turn down a road trip.

Some thoughts on how we change
Many people come to coaching believing they need to change who they are. They’re often stuck because they’ve been trying to fix parts of themselves that were never meant to be fixed. Coaching helps you see that what you thought were weaknesses are often your superpowers — and once you learn how to work with them, you can focus on the changes that truly matter.
